A passkey is a faster and secure way to sign in to Preno without typing a password. Instead of remembering a password, you unlock your account using the same thing you use to unlock your device — your fingerprint, face, or PIN. This guide shows you how to create a passkey and use it to sign in.
Before you start
You'll need to be signed in to Preno on the device where you want to set up the passkey.
You'll need multi-factor authentication (MFA) set up on your account. A passkey is an additional way to sign in — it doesn't replace MFA, and your authenticator stays required to keep your account protected.
Passkeys work with most up-to-date browsers and devices. If your browser or device is older, you may not see the option.
You can store passkeys in your password manager (Microsoft, Google, or Apple) so make sure they're ready when you sign in.
Set up a passkey
1. Go to Account Security
Open Settings and go to your Profile page.
Scroll down to the Account Security section.
Find the Passkeys area.
2. Create a new passkey
Select Create passkey.
Enter your authenticator code when prompted. This confirms it's really you before a new sign-in method is added to your account.
After this, your browser or device takes over to finish setting up the passkey. You'll be asked where to save it and then to confirm it's you. These prompts come from your browser or device — not Preno — so they look a little different depending on whether you're using Chrome, Safari, Edge, Windows, or your phone.
3. Choose where to save it
Save your passkey to a password manager, including:
Saving it to a password manager means the passkey is available across your devices, so you can sign in from more than one place.
4. Confirm it's you
When your device prompts you, confirm with your fingerprint, face, or device PIN. That's your passkey created — it will now appear in the Passkeys area of Account Security.
Sign in with a passkey
On the login screen, select Sign in with passkey.
If you have more than one passkey on the device, choose the one you want to use.
Confirm with your fingerprint, face, or device PIN. You're signed in — no password required.
A passkey is a convenient way in, but it doesn't change your other security settings. Keep your authenticator set up: MFA is still required on your account, so you're always protected even when you sign in another way.
If you lose the device with your passkey
You won't be locked out. A passkey saved to a password manager (Microsoft, Google, or Apple) syncs across your devices, so you can sign in from any other device signed in to that manager.
A passkey saved only to the lost device is gone with it — but you can still sign in with your password and authenticator, then set up a new one.
Manage your passkeys
You can rename or remove a passkey any time from the Passkeys area in Account Security. Remove a passkey if you no longer use the device it's stored on.
