A Global Distribution System (GDS) connects your property's rates and availability to travel agents and corporate travel bookers around the world, alongside flights, car hire and other travel bookings — all through a single booking interface. It's an additional distribution channel on top of your OTAs (like Booking.com and Expedia), and can be a valuable way to reach the corporate and travel-agent market.
Preno can connect your property to a GDS either directly, or through a GDS connectivity provider (also called a GDS gateway) that plugs into multiple GDS at once.
The main GDS providers
Amadeus — one of the largest GDS networks in the world, connecting properties to travel agents globally.
Sabre — a widely used GDS, particularly strong in North America.
Travelport (which includes Galileo) — connects properties across a broad international network of travel agents.
Connecting through a GDS gateway
Rather than connecting to a GDS directly, many properties — especially small to mid-sized ones — connect through a GDS connectivity provider. These plug into multiple GDS at once, so you only need one connection:
STAAH — a cost-effective option, well suited to smaller New Zealand and Australian properties.
Reconline — based in Switzerland, popular with mid-sized properties, particularly motels in New Zealand.
The Hotel Network — growing quickly across Australia, suited to smaller properties.
D-Edge — part of a broader ecosystem (booking engine, channel manager, revenue tools); best suited to larger properties.
Which option is right for my property?
GDS connections tend to suit properties with 20+ rooms, though STAAH and The Hotel Network also work well for smaller properties. The best fit depends on your size, location, and corporate/travel-agent demand.
