What is a pending booking?

Received a “New Pending Reservation” email from the Preno booking engine? Here’s what it means and what to do next.

Written by Amelia Gain

If you’ve received an email from the Preno booking engine with the subject “New Pending Reservation – mybookingsite.io for [property name]”, this is where a guest has started but not completed making a booking.

A pending booking is not a confirmed booking

This email is not a booking confirmation. The guest started a booking on your Preno booking engine but didn’t complete it, so:

  • The booking is not confirmed

  • No payment has been taken

  • The room is not held, and your availability hasn’t changed

  • The guest has not received a booking confirmation

The email is only a notification. No booking is added to Preno, so please don’t prepare for the guest’s arrival unless you’ve confirmed the booking with them directly.

Why does a booking end up pending?

A booking usually ends up pending for one of these reasons:

  • The guest didn’t or was unable to complete the payment step

  • The guest lost their internet connection

  • The booking window was closed before the booking finished

  • The guest chose to stop before paying

What should I do with a pending booking?

Follow up with the guest. The email includes the guest’s details and the dates they were looking at. You can contact them to see if they’d still like to stay. If they do, create the booking in Preno and take payment as usual.
